About

Allen Johnson has held a license, without any restrictions, in the state of Mississippi (License # 1864) since 2014. He is a “Board Qualified Supervisor” (BQS #293) as defined by the Mississippi Licensing Board for Professional Counselors. In 2018, he received his Doctor of Professional Counseling (DPC) degree from Mississippi College.

In 2005, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), in Waxahachie, TX. In 2009, he received his Master’s degree in Counseling Children and Adolescents from William Carey University, in Hattiesburg, MS.

Dr. Johnson is a current member of Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselor Association (MLPCA), the Mississippi Counseling Association (MCA), Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MAAP), and the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama (ASGPP).

In April of 2017, Dr. Johnson was the key note speaker for Teen Challenge of Arkansas for their yearly Faith Promise Banquets in Hot Springs, Little Rock, and Wynne, AR. In March 2018, Dr. Johnson gave an open demonstration using Psychodrama techniques to treat alcohol and drug use at the international University of the Caribbean in Mandeville, Jamaica.

In June of 2019, Dr. Johnson presented at the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MAAP) conference on Using Psychodrama to Treat Substance Use. In September of 2019, Dr. Johnson presented at the Annual Trauma Conference in Jackson, MS on Using Comedic Improv Games as Warm Up with Psychodrama to Treat Adolescent Substance Use. In November of 2019, Dr. Johnson presented at the Annual Mississippi Counseling Association (MCA) Conference in Biloxi, MS on Psychodrama: Tools for Working in Action.

Dr. Johnson’s experience has been mainly with children and adolescents, in Individual, Family, and Group Counseling. His experience has focused on depression, anxiety, oppositional/defiant behavior, parent training, trauma, and grief. He is certified in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). He has been through basic training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR II). Dr. Johnson is a Board Certified-TeleMental Health (BC-TMH) provider. He has completed Mississippi Addiction Counselor Training (MACT), and has completed the required hours to sit in on the exam to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC).

Dr. Johnson has an interest in experiential therapy, and has previous training in Adventure Based Therapy, such as team building and low ropes course. He is a registered student of Psychodrama under supervision by John Rasberry, LMFT, TEP. Currently he is working toward becoming a Certified Practitioner (CP) in Psychodrama.
